Area girls: Post Falls advances in Idaho 5A regionals with win over Coeur d’Alene

Macky Morris scored 19 points with 12 rebounds and five steals and No. 1 seed Post Falls (18-2) advanced in Idaho 5A Region I with a 49-30 win over visiting, fourth-seeded Coeur d’Alene (7-10) on Friday.

Melody Kempton added 10 points for Post Falls, ranked third in last week’s Idaho 5A media poll. The Trojans limited the Vikings to single digits in each of the four quarters.

Kayla Fagan paced CdA with 11 points.

Post Falls will play Lewiston for a trip to state on Tuesday, while Coeur d’Alene faces Lake City in a loser-out game on Tuesday.

Lewiston 54, Lake City 40: Kendyll Kinzer scored 25 points and the visiting, third-seeded Bengals (14-6) advanced in the Idaho 5A regionals, knocking off the second-seeded Timberwolves (16-5) 54-40 on Friday.

Demi Randall added 11 points for Lewiston, which used a 17-3 second quarter to take control and pulled away with a 15-8 third-quarter run.

Keara Simpson led Lake City with 11 points, while Nina Carlson and Bethany Littman had 10 apiece.

Northeast 1B

Wellpinit 76, Odessa-Harrington 39: Christina Carden led the visiting Redskins (10-9, 7-7) with 21 points in a victory over the Titans (3-16, 3-11).

Jada Orr and Mariah Sherwood scored 12 points apiece for Wellpinit, which led 26-10 after the first quarter and 47-28 at intermission. Wellpinit finished the season in third place in the South Division.

Maleah Davison led Odessa-Harrington with 19 points and 10 rebounds. The Titans finished fourth in the South Division.

Southeast 1B

Colton 53, Garfield-Palouse 33: Dakota Patchen led the Wildcats (17-2, 12-1) with 17 points in win over the visiting Vikings (6-9, 6-7).

Colton, No. 1 in state 1B, led 25-16 at the half and used a 12-4 run in the third to pull away. The Wildcats forced 24 turnovers and committed just six.

Gar-Pal was led by Payson Griner with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Katie Arrasmith chipped in 10 points and 13 rebounds for the Vikings, which finish their season on Saturday against Touchet, with the winner claiming fourth place in the league.

Oakesdale 51, St. John-Endicott 25: Jacey Johnson scored 29 points and the visiting Nighthawks (16-3, 12-1) routed the Eagles (2-17, 2-11).

Oakesdale, ranked second in state 1B, led 14-5 after one quarter and 29-13 at the half.

Riley Lamb led St. John-Endicott with 11 points. The Eagles finish the season in seventh place in the league.

Wins by Oakesdale and Colton set up a showdown between the two schools on Saturday in Oakesdale for the league title and top ranking in 1B.

Intermountain

Timberlake 72, Bonners Ferry 25 : Keelie Lawler scored 15 points, Allison Kirby added 13 and the Tigers (18-2, 8-0), ranked first in last week’s Idaho 3A media poll, crushed the visiting Badgers (8-87, 5-82).

Kaylee Jezek added 10 points for Timberlake, which led 26-5 after the first quarter. The Tigers, who already clinched a league title earlier in the week, capped a perfect league record and await their opponent in districts for Tuesday.

Kassy Skeen led Bonners Ferry with six points. The Badgers finished second in the league and will face third-seeded Kellogg in 3A districts on Tuesday.
