Area boys: Jake Albright scores 20 points and 2A No. 1 Clarkston tops Cheney

Jake Albright lit up the scoreboard with 20 points and visiting Clarkston (18-2, 12-0) defeated Cheney (8-12, 1-11) 62-53 on Saturday in their final Great Northern League matchup of the season.

Clarkston, ranked first in state 2A in the latest WIAA RPI ratings, finished undefeated in league play heading into the postseason.

Clarkston led by three at halftime and used a 17-11 run in the third to take control. Jett Sobotta added 14 points for Clarkston.

Cheney was led by Devin Cook and Nicholas Burnham with 11 points apiece.

Pullman 85, East Valley 51: Tim Pendry scored 20 points with eight rebounds and seven steals and the visiting Greyhounds (15-5, 8-4) beat the Knights (10-10, 5-7).

Pullman, ranked fourth in state 2A, finished in second place in the GNL.

Pullman led 23-12 after the first quarter and outscored the Knights in all four quarters. Jacob Wells scored 18 points for Pullman with Isiah Strong adding 14 points and Jared Anderson 10.

East Valley, ranked 11th in 2A, was led by Terick Beydler and Eli Holecek, with nine points apiece. The Knights placed third in league.

Northeast 2B

Northwest Christian 72, Kettle Falls 12: Rolf Veenstra scored 17 points and the visiting Crusaders (18-1, 15-0), ranked second in state 2B, defeated the Bulldogs (5-15, 2-14).

Veenstra made five 3-pointers, four in the first quarter as NWC built a 29-2 lead. The Crusaders shot 69 percent from the field and limited Kettle Falls to single digits in each of the four quarters.

Marcello Mendez led the Bulldogs with six points.

Liberty 73, Reardan 36: Brandon Holling scored 14 points and the visiting Lancers (14-5, 12-3) defeated the Indians (3-16, 2-13).

Cade Francis paced Reardan with 11 points.

Liberty and Colfax are tied atop the South Division with one more league game to play of Monday due to Friday’s weather conditions.

Colfax 68, Tekoa-Rosalia 39: Jaydon Soncarty scored 19 points and the visiting Bulldogs (14-5, 12-3) beat the Timberwolves (4-15, 2-13).

Danny Robinson added 17 points and Carson Cloaninger had 10 for Colfax.

Devin Cripe and Mitchell Billings scored eight points apiece to lead Tekoa-Rosalia.

St. George’s 57, Davenport 42: Erik Farias scored 26 points with six rebounds and the Dragons (12-7, 11-4) beat visiting Gorillas (8-12, 7-9).

Davenport was able to pull the score to within 10 points with 4 minutes remaining but St. George’s pulled away with a run of its own.

Xander Werkman had 11 points and Cade Peplinksi scored 10 points with 11 rebounds for St. George’s.

Tanner Abbott scored went 4 of 5 on 3-point attempts and finished with 16 points to lead Davenport.

Springdale 56, Wilbur-Creston 52: Chandler Carr scored 28 points and the visiting Chargers (12-7, 8-7) outscored the Wildcats (6-13, 5-10).

Springdale secured third place in the North Division.

The Chargers trailed by five at intermission and used a 16-8 third-quarter run to overtake the Wildcats.

Jason Townsend scored 15 points and Tucker Odegaard added 12 to pace Wilbur-Creston.

Southeast 1B

Pomeroy 68, Prescott 49: Jace Gwynn scored 18 points, Jake Tewalt added 16 and the visiting Pirates (17-2, 13-1) defeated the Tigers (9-7, 7-5).

Pomeroy, first in league and ranked seventh in state 1B, used a 19-9 third quarter to pull away from Prescott, which finished fifth in the league.

Travis Crockett scored 18 points to lead the Tigers.

Waitsburg 63, St. John-Endicott 43: Kyle Gradwohl scored 22 points and the visiting Cardinals (13-4, 9-3), ranked ninth in state 1B, defeated the Eagles (3-17, 1-13).

Jacob Dunn scored 14 points while Landon Callas and Jordan French both added 11 for Waitsburg, which led 29-12 at intermission.

Adam Blakeley led the Eagles with 13 points.

Touchet at Garfield-Palouse: the visiting Indians (2-12, 1-11) and the Vikings (10-7, 7-5)

Inland Empire 5A

Post Falls 65, Coeur d’Alene 58: Jake Pfennigs scored 19 points and the Trojans (14-2, 5-0) topped the visiting Vikings (8-9, 2-4) 65-58 in overtime on Saturday.

The Trojans, ranked third in last week’s Idaho 5A media poll, stayed undefeated in league play, securing the top spot in the Inland Empire 5A standings with one game to play.

Post Falls held Coeur d’Alene to one basket in the extra session. The Trojans trailed 25-22 at the half, then flipped the switch, outscoring the Vikings 34-31 in the second half to force overtime.

David Bourgard and Drake Thompson scored 12 points apiece for Post Falls.

Coeur d’Alene was led by Joey Naccarato with 23 points.
