Area girls: Hailey Higashi scores 18 points and St. George’s downs Davenport
Hailey Higashi moved into second place in career scoring for St. George’s and the Dragons (17-2, 14-1) defeated visiting Davenport (17-3, 13-3) 54-47 on Saturday.
Higashi scored 18 points to give her 1,641 in her stellar career.
St. George’s, ranked seventh in state 2B, sealed first place in the Northeast 2B North Division heading into district play next week.
Abby Jones and Lydia Bergquist added 12 points apiece for St. George’s.
Davenport, ranked ninth in state 2B, settled for second in the division with one game to play on Monday. Sydney Abbott and Grace Lilje both scored 14 points.
Liberty 75, Reardan 32: Christine Denny set a school single-game record with 41 points and the visiting Lancers (17-2, 13-2), ranked fifth in state 2B, routed the Indians (7-12, 4-11).
Denny broke her previous record of 38 points. She finished 16 of 19 from the floor, 5 of 7 from 3-point range and 4 of 4 from the line. Denny dished four assists with six steals.
Emma Holwegner added 11 points and Maisie Burnham had 10 for Liberty.
Maiya Martinez led Reardan with eight points.
Colfax 51, Tekoa-Rosalia 32: Carmen Gfeller scored 12 points and the visiting Bulldogs (14-5, 13-2) beat the Timberwolves (5-12, 3-11).
Piper Cai scored 10 points for eighth-ranked Colfax, which led 48-15 after three quarters.
Hannah Beach led Tekoa-Rosalia with 12 points.
Colfax remains tied with Liberty atop the South Division with one league game to play on Monday.
Wilbur-Creston 52, Springdale 27: Ireland Corrigan scored 18 points with 12 rebounds and the Wildcats (10-9, 8-7) routed the visiting Chargers (1-18, 0-15).
Springdale was led by Nichole Beckman with eight points.
Wilbur-Creston secured at least a tie for third place in the North Division.
Northwest Christian 59, Kettle Falls 45: Natalie Smith scored 21 points and the visiting Crusaders (10-9, 7-8) defeated the Bulldogs (4-16, 2-14).
Mattea Nelson finished with 17 points and Savanna Morasch added 10. NWC used a 23-12 third quarter to open it up.
Taylor Dunlap led Kettle Falls with 14 points.
Great Northern
Cheney 57, Clarkston 53: Freshman Maggie Smith scored 15 points and the Blackhawks (11-9, 6-6) defeated the visiting Bantams (10-9, 7-5) in a game that was moved due to weather conditions.
Hailee Huff scored 12 points and Kristie McGourin added 10 for Cheney.
Tied at 29 at halftime, Cheney pulled away with an 18-7 third-quarter run then held on down the stretch.
Mikinzie Packwood led Clarkston with 15 points, eight in its fourth-quarter rally. Riley Denton added 14 points.
Clarkston finishes second in the GNL heading into the playoffs while Cheney moves into a tie for third place with West Valley.
East Valley 64, Pullman 24: Elle Burland scored 18 points and the Knights (14-6, 11-1), 10th in state 2A, beat the visiting Greyhounds (3-17, 0-12).
The Knights led 50-10 at halftime. Kelsey Nestegard led the Greyhounds with nine points.
Southeast 1B
Colton 52, Oakesdale 34: Emily Schultheis came off the bench and scored 15 points and the visiting Wildcats (18-2, 13-1) captured its league championship for the 10th consecutive year with a victory over the Nighthawks (16-4, 12-2).
Colton (18-2, 13-1), ranked No.1 in state 1B, will now turn its attention to the pursuit of a ninth consecutive state title with a 1B District 9 tournament game at home on Friday.
Colton lost at home to Oakesdale, ranked second in state 2B, on Jan. 13, which snapped the Wildcats’ seven-year league and home winning streaks. It also left the league title up for grabs until this showdown in both teams’ regular-season finale.
The Wildcats jumped to a 10-point edge by halftime, then outscored Oakesdale 19-11 in the second half. Colton limited the Nighthawks to two field goals after halftime, both of which came in the fourth.
Dakota Patchen added 11 points and Georgia Meyer tracked down 10 rebounds for Colton.
Oakesdale was paced by Jacey Johnson with 11 points.
St. John-Endicott 52, Waitsburg 47: Riley Lamb scored 21 points with five rebounds and two steals and the Eagles (3-17, 3-11) downed the visiting Cardinals (3-13, 3-9).
Drew Brewer scored 13 points with nine rebounds, three assists and two steals for St. John-Endicott, which pulled away with a 21-6 fourth quarter.
Devon Harshman led Waitsburg with 13 points.
