Area boys: Ryan Ricks scores 18 points and Northwest Christian routs Wilbur-Creston

Ryan Ricks scored 18 points and Northwest Christian (19-1, 16-0) beat visiting Wilbur-Creston (6-14, 5-11) 69-26 on Monday in the Northwest 2B regular season finale for both teams.

The games were originally scheduled for Friday but were postponed due to Friday’s snowstorm.

Rolf Veenstra had 16 points while Asher Cox added 12 points for Northwest Christian, which led 29-12 at halftime, then ran away with a 29-9 third-quarter run.

NWC, ranked fourth in state 1B entering play by latest WIAA RPI ratings, is the No. 1 seed from the Northwest 2B North Division and will face the winner of South No. 5 Reardan and North No. 6 Kettle Falls in the upcoming NE2B District tournament.

All first-round games are on Wednesday with second-round matchup on Friday.

NWC, Liberty, St. George’s and Colfax all earned first-round byes and await their opponents for Friday.

Wilbur-Creston finished with the fifth seed from the North Division and will face Tekoa-Rosalia in the first round.

Liberty 74, Asotin 56 : Chase Burnham scored 25 points and the Lancers (15-5, 13-3) handled the visiting Panthers (11-9, 10-6) in the season regular season finale for both teams.

Tyler Haas added 21 points and played strong defense to shut down an Asotin comeback, while Thomas Redder added 12 points with six rebounds.

Liberty is the top seed in the Northeast 2B South and will face the winner of Tuesday’s Wilbur-Creston and Tekoa-Rosalia matchup on Thursday.

Thomas Weakland scored 14 points and hit a couple of big 3-pointers in a 22-16 third quarter for Asotin which cut into its deficit. Eli Engledow added 13 points for the Panthers.

Asotin is the South No. 3 seed and plays Davenport on Tuesday.

Colfax 62, Reardan 39: Jared Kneale scored 15 points and the Bulldogs (15-5, 13-3) pulled away from the visiting Indians (3-17, 2-14).

Carson Cloaninger had 14 points and Caleb Berquist added 10 for Colfax, which finished tied with Liberty for first place in the South but takes second seed in Districts on tiebreaker. The Bulldogs face the Springdale-LRS winner in the second round

Cade Francis scored 13 point to lead Reardan, which finished fifth in the South Division and will face North No. 6 Kettle Falls on Tuesday.

St. George’s 78, Springdale 38: Mitchell Ward led the visiting Dragons (13-7, 12-4) with 24 points to help his team to a victory over the Chargers (12-8, 8-8).

Erik Farias brought in 15 points for St. George’s, which got out of the gate with a 29-point first quarter, then outscored Springdale 35-8 after intermission.

St. George’s earned a first-round bye as the North No. 2 seed and will face the winner of Asotin (South No. 3) and Davenport (North No. 4).

Chandler Carr led Springdale with 12 points while Austin Howder added 10.

Springdale now advances to the playoffs and the North No. 3 seed and and will face South No. 4 Lind-Ritzville/Sprague.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 69, Tekoa-Rosalia 39: Bryce Kelly scored 17 points, including five of his team’s 12 3-pointers in the first half, and and the Broncos (8-12, 6-10) handled the visiting Timberwolves (4-16, 2-14).

Patrick Bartz added 14 points for LRS which earned the South Division’s fourth seed and will face North three-seed Springdale in the opening round.

Tekoa-Rosalia finished as the sixth seed in the south and will take on North No. 5 Wilbur-Creston.
