Small school playoff preview: Freeman boys, Medical Lake girls top Northeast A seeds

Now that the makeups from Friday night’s snowstorm have been played, here’s a look at the playoff seedings for Northeast A, Northeast 2B and Northeast 1B tournaments, many of which start on Tuesday.

Northeast A Districts

Boys: All first-round games are on Wednesday at higher seed. All second-round games are at West Valley on Friday.

Freeman (19-1, 14-0) is the top seed and is ranked first in state 1A in the latest WIAA RPI ratings entering District play. The Scotties will face the winner of No. 4 Lakeside (11-9, 9-5) and No. 5 Deer Park (9-11, 7-7).

Newport (13-7, 10-4) is the second seed and awaits its opponent for Friday. The Grizzlies will face the winner of Wednesday’s third-seeded Medical Lake (13-7, 9-5) and No. 6 seed Chewelah (9-11, 4-10).

Girls: All first-round games are on Tuesday at higher seed. All second-round games are at West Valley on Thursday.

Medical Lake (18-2, 14-0), ranked 11th in state 1A, earned the top seed for Districts. The Cardinals await the winner of the 4-5 matchup between Deer Park (9-11, 6-8) and Colville (6-14, 5-7).

On the other side of the bracket, second-seeded Lakeside (13-7, 10-4) will face the winner of third-seeded Chewelah (15-5, 8-4) and No. 6 seed Freeman (6-14, 5-9).

Northeast 2B Districts

Boys: All first-round games are on Wednesday. All second-round matchups are on Friday. All games are at West Valley.

Northwest Christian (19-1, 16-0), ranked fifth in state 2B in the latest WIAA RPI ratings, is the North Division top seed. The Crusaders will face South 5-North 6 winner.

Liberty (15-5, 13-3) is the South Division top seed. The Lancers play the winner of North No. 5 Wilbur-Creston and South No. 6 Tekoa-Rosalia.

St. George’s (13-7, 12-4) earned the second seed in the North and will face the South No. 3 Asotin-North No. 4 Davenport winner.

Colfax (15-5, 13-3) is the second seed in the South and will play the winner of North No. 3 Springdale and South No. 4 Lind-Ritzville/Sprague.

Girls: All first-round games are on Tuesday. All second-round matchups are on Thursday. All games are at West Valley.

Liberty (18-2, 14-2), ranked seventh in state 2B in the latest WIAA RPI ratings, earned the No. 1 seed from the Northeast 2B South Division and will play against the North No. 5 Kettle Falls-South No. 6 Tekoa-Rosalia.

St. George’s (18-2, 15-1), ranked sixth in state 2B, is the top seed in the North Division. The Dragons face the winner of South No. 5 Reardan and North No. 6 Springdale.

Colfax (15-5, 14-2) is ranked ninth in state and the South No. 2 seed. The Bulldogs play the winner of North No. 3 Wilbur-Creston and South No. 4 Asotin.

Davenport (17-3, 13-3), ranked eighth in state, is the North No. 2 seed and faces the South No. 3 Lind-Ritzville/Sprague and North No. 4 Northwest Christian winner.

Northeast 1B

Boys: All games are Wednesday at higher seed.

Selkirk (16-4, 12-3), ranked 13th in state, is the North No. 1 seed and will host South No. 4.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline (18-2, 14-0), eighth in state, earned top seed in the South and hosts North No. 4 Republic.

Girls: All games are Tuesday at higher seed.

Republic (19-1, 16-0), ranked fourth in state 1B, is North No. 1 and hosts South No. 4 Odessa-Harrington.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline (17-3, 13-1), ranked sixth in state, is the South top seed and hosts North No. 4 Inchelium.

Selkirk (17-3, 12-3), seventh in state, is North No. 2 and hosts South 3-seed Wellpinit.

Valley Christian (12-8, 11-4) earned the second seed in the South and hosts Curlew, the third seed from the North.
