Area girls: Sophie Hamilton helps West Valley eliminate Cheney from 2A

Sophie Hamilton scored 12 points and West Valley (13-8) eliminated visiting Cheney (10-10) 45-31 on Wednesday at the District 7 2A tournament.

The Eagles jumped out to a 19-7 lead after the first quarter and led 26-11 at the half.

Brette Draper scored eight points to pace the Blackhawks.

West Valley advances to play Clarkston on Saturday in another loser-out matchup.

Clarkston 66, Pullman 49: Auna Taylor scored 13 points to help the Bantams (11-9) eliminate the visiting Greyhounds (2-17).

Clarkston used a 17-5 second-quarter run to put some distance between the two, then pulled away with a 22-17 fourth quarter.

Riley Denton and Mikinzie Packwood added 12 points apiece for the Bantams.

Rian Clear led Pullman with 19 points while Kelsey Nestegard added 12.

District 9 1B

Pomeroy 55, Waitsburg 24: Madison Dixon scored 16 points with six rebounds and the Pirates (15-5) handled the visiting Cardinals (4-16).

Joining Dixon in double figures was Sydney Watko and Sydney Smith with 10 points apiece.

Pomeroy advances to play at Oakesdale on Friday. The teams split their two regular-season meetings.
