Two suspected of getting rid of gun used to kill Brandon Bushy
Two people were recently arrested for allegedly helping to get rid of the gun used to kill Brandon M. Bushy, who was found shot to death on a sidewalk in the 500 block of East Crown Avenue on Jan. 24.
Christopher A. Burdick, 31, and Heather McDaniel, 26, are both facing charges of rendering criminal assistance. Burdick told police that he sold the gun used in the murder to someone on the east side, according to court documents. He also gave the man suspected of killing Bushy, 30-year-old Darrell T. Tucker II, a ride shortly after the attack.
McDaniel, who is Burdick’s girlfriend, told police that she did not know the man Burdick had given a ride to and could not identify him even though she knew Tucker, court documents state. Police believe she recovered the murder weapon from where Tucker had dumped it and gave it to Burdick to sell.
Bushy was walking from a friend’s house to his girlfriend’s house when he was killed. Witnesses said they saw Bushy talking to a man in a car before he was shot twice. Police identified the car from surveillance footage as a Subaru Legacy registered to Tucker.
Bushy and Tucker knew each other from years before when Tucker was accused of raping a 14-year-old girl who was a close friend of Bushy’s in 2008, according to court documents. Burdick told police that Tucker said he had argued with Bushy before shooting him, court documents state.
Police recovered texts between Burdick and Tucker that reference the murder and disposing of the gun, according to court documents.
Tucker is being held on $1 million bond for second-degree murder. Burdick, who is on probation for drug charges, had his bond set at $250,000. McDaniel’s bond is $60,000.
