Pedestrian dies after he was hit while crossing Division Street

A man attempting to cross Division Street at Euclid Avenue was struck by a pickup Saturday evening and later died of his injuries.

The truck that struck the man was going north on Division shortly after 7 p.m., said Spokane Police Cpl. Ron VanTassel. The driver cooperated with police and voluntarily took sobriety tests, VanTassel said. Alcohol did not appear to be a factor and no charges are currently pending.

The pedestrian was taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, where he died of his injuries. The man’s identity will be released by the Spokane County Medical Examiner after an autopsy.

All northbound lanes of Division were closed for several hours while police investigated the scene.
