Area boys: Ryan Ricks helps Northwest Christian top Colfax in 2B playoffs

Ryan Ricks scored 20 points, Asher Cox added 18 and Northwest Christian (21-1), ranked fifth in state 2B entering play in the latest WIAA RPI ratings, beat Colfax (16-6) 65-44 on Wednesday in District 7 2B play at West Valley HS.

Northwest Christian plays Liberty for the district title on Saturday, with both advancing to regionals next week. Rolf Veenstra added 13 points for NWC, which pulled away with a 22-6 third-quarter run.

Danny Robinson scored 13 points and Jaydon Soncarty chipped in with 11 for Colfax, faces Lind-Ritzville/Sprague in a loser-out game on Thursday.

Liberty 84, St. George’s 81: Chase Burnham scored 22 points with 11 rebounds and the Lancers (17-5) topped the Dragons (14-8) in triple-overtime.

Burnham helped force overtime, hitting 3 of 4 from the line late, though neither team scored in the last two minutes of regulation. In the third OT, Justin Jeske drove for a bucket in the paint, the Isaak Ottmar blocked a shot on the next possession. Tyler Haas grabbed the loose-ball rebound, was fouled, and made 1 of 2 at the line.

St. George’s last-second 3-point attempt was no good.

Haas finished with 20 points, Thomas Redder and Jeske added 12 points apiece while Ottmar had 10 points with 10 rebounds.

Erik Farias led St. George’s with 29 points and 14 rebounds. Cade Peplinksi had 28 points and Mitchell Ward added 12.

St. George’s faces Springdale in a loser-out on Thursday.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 49, Davenport 47: Camden Smith took a pass from Parker Bartz and hit a layup with 1.3 seconds left to help the Broncos (10-13) eliminate the Gorillas (8-14).

Izaiah Bowdish’s layup with 1:20 left gave Davenport a 47-44 lead. LRS’ Bryce Kelly hit his third 3-pointer with 1 minute left to tie the game at 47. The Broncos got a stop, grabbed an offensive rebound and set up the winning play.

Peyton Buchanan’s desperation shot from the corner wasn’t close for the Gorillas.

Smith and teammate David Ziebell finished with 10 points and eight rebounds apiece.

Springdale 57, Asotin 46: Austin Howder scored 25 points, Chandler Carr had 24 points with 15 rebounds and the Chargers (14-9) eliminated the Panthers (11-10).

Springdale used a 13-4 third-quarter run to pull away, with Howder and Carr responsible for all 13 points.

Thomas Martin scored 21 points and Blake Magnuson added 12 for Asotin.

District 7 1B

Selkirk 69, Inchelium 57: Jacob Couch scored 18 of his career-high 33 points in the third quarter and grabbed 12 rebounds to help the Rangers (17-5) eliminate the Hornets (10-11) on Wednesday in a District 7 1B matchup at Deer Park HS.

Austin Robertson added 16 points for Selkirk, which faces Wellpinit on Saturday for third place in district and a berth in regionals.

Jaden Erickson made five 3-point field goals and finished with 22 points for Inchelium.

Wellpinit 75, Cusick 46: Brandon Flett scored 22 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had 10 assists to help the Redskins (18-6) eliminate the Panthers (9-13).

Devon Pascal scored 17 points and Xavier Brown had 11 points, while Cedric Bowen added 11 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists for Wellpinit.

Cusick was led by Dylan Hendershott with 22 points.

North Star

Lakeside 61, Mullan 36: Alex Pakootas scored 21 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to help the Knights (8-10, 4-4) defeat the visiting Tigers (2-13, 0-8) 61-36 in league play on Wednesday.

Tyrell Ambro grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for Lakeside, which led 28-13 at intermission.

Gryphon Todd led Mullan with 14 points.

Genesis Prep 65, Kootenai 34: The Jaguars (16-4, 8-0) beat the Warriors (4-10, 3-4) to finish the regular season unbeaten in league play to earn the first seed and a bye in next week’s District 1A Division 2 tournament. Kootenai has a game yet to play, on Saturday at CDA Charter.
