Area girls: Elle Burland scores 15 points and East Valley takes 2A title over West Valley

Elle Burland scored 15 points and East Valley (15-6), ranked 11th in state 2A in the latest RPI ratings, topped visiting West Valley (13-9) 58-47 on Wednesday for the Great Northern League District 7 2A title.

Faith Adams scored 12 points and Genesis Wilkinson added 11 for East Valley, which jumped out to an 18-4 lead after the first quarter.

East Valley hosts Selah on Saturday in a GNL/Central Washington Athletic Conference glue crossover game, with the winner advancing to regionals.

Alyssa Amann led West Valley with 10 points. The Eagles travel to East Valley (Yakima) on Saturday in the second GNL/CWAC crossover game.

District 7 2B

St. George’s 55, Colfax 39: Hailey Higashi scored 19 points with five rebounds, three steals and three assists and the Dragons (20-2), ranked sixth in state 2B entering play in the RPI ratings, beat the ninth-ranked Bulldogs (16-6) at West Valley HS.

St. George’s advances to the title game on Saturday against Davenport, with both teams advancing to regionals. Colfax plays Lind-Ritzville/Sprague in a loser-out game on Thursday.

Higashi had 11 points in an 18-8 third-quarter run, including three 3-pointers. Daysha Melendez added 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting, and Lydia Bergquist played shutdown defense on Colfax leading scorer Carmen Gfeller, limiting Gfeller to three points on 1-of-15 shooting from the field.

Taylor Garcia led Colfax with 18 points.

Davenport 50, Liberty 39: Sydney Zieler scored 21 points, Sydney Abbott added 19 and the Gorillas (19-3) downed the Lancers (19-3).

Madison Abbott had eight points with 18 rebounds for Davenport, ranked eighth in state 2B entering play.

Liberty, ranked seventh in the state, faces Northwest Christian in a loser-out game on Thursday. Maisie Burnham scored 14 points and Madelynne Flaig added 10 for Liberty.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 59, Asotin 38: Peyton Curtis scored 16 points, Tessa Jantz added 14 and the Broncos (15-9) eliminated the Panthers (7-14).

LRS led 29-20 at intermission then pulled away with an 18-5 run in the third quarter.

Samantha Nicholas scored 14 points and Adrienne Washington added 12 for Asotin.

Northwest Christian 57, Wilbur-Creston 38: Natalie Smith scored 18 points, Mattea Nelson added 17 and the Crusaders (12-11) eliminated the Wildcats (13-11).

Smith and Nelson both went 3 of 4 at the line down the stretch with NWC in the double-bonus late.

Ireland Corrigan led W-C with 19 points, 17 rebounds and four blocked shots.

District 7 1B

Curlew 36, Valley Christian 31: Korin Baker scored 14 points and the fourth-seeded Cougars (11-9) came back to eliminate the No. 2-seed Panthers (13-10) 36-31 on Wednesday in District 7 1B play at Deer Park HS.

Curlew was down 19-13 in the first half and used a 23-12 second half to win by five points.

MeganJoe Beedle added 11 points for Curlew, which faces Selkirk on Saturday for third place in the district and a trip to regionals next week.

Phoebe Trigsted led the Panthers with 11 points.

Selkirk 63, Inchelium 40: Gabi Rick scored 21 points with 11 rebounds and the Rangers (19-4), ranked eighth in state 1B in the latest RPI ratings, ousted the Hornets (10-11).

The Rangers used a 20-3 third-quarter run to open it up. Jenna Couch added 14 points with seven steals for Selkirk.

Meika Heth scored 11 points and Rylee Desautel added 10 for Inchelium.
