Education notebook: East Valley High stages ‘Peter Pan: The Musical’

East Valley High School’s production of “Peter Pan: The Musical” opens Thursday.

The musical stars senior Laurel Weberg as Wendy, senior Cadie Bise as Peter Pan and freshman Dean Roberson as Captain Hook.

Performances are 3 and 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday at the Black Box Theater, room 134, 15711 E. Wellesley Ave., Spokane Valley. Doors open 15 minutes before each show, and concessions will be available.

Tickets are $6 for EVHS students with ASB, children and seniors, and $8 for students without ASB and adults.

Northwest Christian hosts open house

Northwest Christian Schools is inviting parents who would like to learn more about Christ-centered education to an open house 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Parents with children in first through fifth grades should meet in the Lower Campus Gym, 5028 E. Bernhill Road, Colbert. They will have the opportunity to meet teachers and staff and see classroom displays. There will also be information about full-day and half-day early learning and kindergarten programs. Parents with children in sixth through eighth grades should also meet in the Lower Campus Gym. Following a general session, parents will visit middle school classrooms to meet teachers and learn about Northwest Christian Schools’ Bible-based academic program and its mission for mentoring middle school students. Parents with students in ninth through 12th grades should meet in the Colbert Campus Chapel, 5104 E. Bernhill Road, Colbert. They will learn how the school integrates biblical teaching into its classes and encourages critical thinking, and more about academics, athletics and fine arts. Parents who homeschool their children are invited to learn more about Northwest Christian’s Homeschool Extension Program. Information about the program will be available at both the Lower Campus Gym and the Colbert Campus Chapel. Cheney students head to FBLA state competition

Eleven members of the Cheney Middle School Future Business Leaders of America club recently competed at the 2017 Northeast Regional Winter Conference, which was at Eastpoint Church.

Six of those students placed in the top six in their respective categories, which means they qualified for the state conference, which will be April 19-22.

Qualifying students are: Kayla Fortune (sixth place, graphic design); Irelyn DeWeese (sixth place, graphic design); Lillian O’Neel (sixth place, graphic design); Beckett Schoenleber (first place, sales presentation); Johnathan Jacobsen (third place, social media campaign); and Gabe Gerber (third place, social media campaign).

EV run raises money for senior party

Registration is now open for East Valley High School’s 33rd annual Rapid Rabbit Run, which will be March 19.
