Area boys: Jake Tewalt leads Pomeroy over Waitsburg in District 9 1B title game

Jake Tewalt scored 22 points and Pomeroy (19-2), ranked sixth in state 1B, advanced to regional play after a win over Waitsburg (15-5) 45-41 on Friday in the District 9 1B title game at Colfax HS.

Waitsburg, ranked ninth, held a three-point lead at halftime, but Tewalt and Cort LaMunyan sparked the Pirates’ offense in the second half to outscore the Cardinals 26-19. LaMunyan finished with 10 points.

Waitsburg was led by Jordan Garrity with 12 points.

Waitsburg plays on Saturday against Colton in a play-in game to regionals.

Colton 65, Oakesdale 46: Grant Kinzer lit up the scoreboard with 25 points and the Wildcats (15-9) defeated the Nighthawks (9-14) in a loser-out game.

Colton was down by four to start the second half, but 17 second-half points by Kinzer boosted the Wildcats. Reece Chadwick added 16 points for Colton.

Kieron Anderson led Oakesdale with 17 points.

Inland Empire 5A

Post Falls 63, Lake City 48: Jake Pfennigs scored 17 points with 19 boards and the Trojans (16-2) topped the visiting Timberwolves (15-6).

Post Falls held a six-point lead at halftime but dominated the third quarter, holding Lake City scoreless in the quarter and stretching its lead to 21 points. Drake Thompson added 14 points for the Trojans with five assists and three steals.

Lake City was led by Kenny Louie-McGee, who finished with 26 points on eight baskets, including four 3-pointers.

Intermountain

Coeur d’Alene Charter at Kellogg: Toby Colburn scored all 18 of his points in the first half and the Wildcats (16-2, 8-0) finished with a league championship after a win over the Panthers (2-12, 0-8).

Kellogg led 23-8 after the first quarter and cruised. Chase Jerome added 15 points with four assists and four steals.

Eli Putren led CdA Charter with 10 points.

Timberlake 67, Priest River 36: Colton Counts and Brenden Jensen scored 14 points apiece and the visiting Tigers (11-7, 6-2) defeated the Spartan (6-14, 2-5).

Timberlake jumped out to a 20-8 lead after the first quarter and were never threatened. The Tigers pulled into intermission with a 41-18 lead.

Jacob James added 11 points and Brayden Menti scoreed 10 points to assist the Tigers in the victory.

Hunter Hartwig finished with 11 points to lead the Spartans.
