Area boys: Ferris eliminated by Richland in 4A subregional
Riley Sorn scored 20 points and Richland (16-4) beat visiting Ferris (17-5) 66-64 on Saturday in the District 8 4A subregional second-place game.
Richland advances to regionals next weekend while Ferris’ season comes to a close. Tyler Kurtz added 14 points with nine boards and five assists.
Shamrock Campbell scored 26 points with six rebounds and Michael Ervin added 17 points for Ferris.
Ferris trailed 43-27 at halftime and roared back with a 23-10 third quarter to make a game of it.
3A subregional
Shadle Park 68, Mt. Spokane 57: Markeith Brown scored 20 points, Andreas Brown added 19 and the Highlanders (17-4) beat the visiting Wildcats (10-14) in the District 8 3A subregional second-place game.
Shadle Park travels to Eastside Catholic in a glue crossover game on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
Shadle Park led 48-38 after three quarters. Mt. Spokane was able to cut the differential to five points down the stretch but Tanner Groves hit a couple of big field goals to answer. Groves finished with 12 points.
Phalon Maddox led Mt. Spokane with 21 points.
2A crossovers
Pullman 76, Toppenish 68: Jacob Wells scored 22 points and the Greyhounds (19-5) beat the visiting Wildcats (14-9) in a Great Northern League-Central Washington Athletic Conference 2A crossover game.
Pullman advances to next weekend’s regional tournament. Jared Anderson scored 19 points, Tim Pendry had 17 and Jake Cillay added 13 for Pullman, ranked fourth in the final state 2A RPI ratings.
Pullman trailed 43-32 at intermission but stormed back with a 21-11 third-quarter run, then pulled away with a 23-14 fourth quarter.
Adonis Shaul led Toppensih with 26 points.
Prosser 48, Clarkston 41: Nate Brown scored 20 points and the Mustangs (14-9) beat the visiting Bantams (18-4).
Prosser advances to regionals, while Clarkston’s season comes to an end. The Bantams were ranked No. 1 in state 2A in the final RPI ratings.
The game was tied at 29 after three quarters and Prosser pulled away with a 19-12 fourth-quarter run.
Jett Sobotta led Clarkston with 20 points.
1A crossovers
Medical Lake 62, Okanogan 51: Nizhole Sherman netted 25 points and the Cardinals (16-8) advanced to regionals, defeating the visiting Bulldogs (11-13) in a Northeast A-Caribou Trail League 1A crossover game.
Drew Hostetter added 12 points, including eight straight in the fourth quarter as Medical Lake pulled away. Xavier Butler had 11 points and Joey Jasmer chipped in 22 rebounds.
Jordan Jesse led Okanogan with 14 points.
Newport 53, Chelan 51: Danny Bradbury scored 17 points, Koa Pancho added 15 and the Grizzlies (15-8) defeated Chelan (15-6) 53-51 on Saturday in a 1A crossover game.
Chelan was up 51-48 with 17 second on the clock when Pancho hit a 3-point field goal to tie it up. Bradbury grabbed the rebound on Chelan’s next missed attempt and was fouled when putting up his shot. His two free throws gave Newport the lead with 1.2 seconds remaining and Chelan wasn’t able to sink their final attempt.
Zach Thelps and Tyler Worthen paced Chelan with 15 points apiece.
District 7 2B
Northwest Christian 61, Liberty 57: Asher Cox scored 23 points including a buzzer-beater to force overtime and the Crusaders (22-1) edged the Lancers (17-6) in overtime on in the District 7 2B title game at West Valley HS.
Both teams advance to next weekend’s regional tournament.
Liberty led 14-7 after the first quarter and were up by six at intermission. In the second half, Cox caught fire and NWC tied it late in the fourth.
Liberty’s Chase Burnham nailed a 3-pointer from the corner to give the Lancers a 3-point lead with seven seconds left. Cox then swished a buzzer-beater from beyond the arc to send the game into overtime.
In overtime, Rolf Veenstra nailed an early 3-pointer and Cox sealed the game with two big free throws. Veenstra finished with 16 points and Ryan Ricks added 14 points.
Burnham led Liberty with 22 points and Tyler Haas added 14. Thomas Redder scored 10 points.
St. George’s 62, Colfax 49: Erik Farias scored 29 points with five rebounds and the Dragons (16-8) beat the Bulldogs (17-6) in the District 7 2B third-place game at West Valley HS.
Farias hit 13 of 17 free throws for the game and made 8 of 9 from the line in the fourth quarter. Cade Peplinksi and Mitchell Ward added 10 points apiece for St. George’s, which advances to next weekend’s regional tournament.
Danny Robinson scored 13 points and Caleb Berquist added 12 for Colfax.
District 7 1B
Almira/Coulee-Hartline 58, Odessa-Harrington 44: Payton Nielsen scored 18 points with 25 rebounds and the Warriors (21-2) beat the Titans (14-8) at Deer Park HS in the District 7 1B title game.
Both teams advance to next weekend’s regional tournament.
ACH opened a 16-6 lead after the first quarter and led 40-22 at intermission. Mac Isaak had 14 points and Gage Burchill added 11.
Ryan Moffet led Odessa-Harrington with 30 points.
Wellpinit 54, Selkirk 45: Steven Ford scored 14 points and the Redskins (17-7) defeated the Rangers (17-6) at Deer Park HS for third place in the District 7 1B tournament.
Cedric Bowen added 13 points for Wellpinit, which advances to regional play next week.
Wellpinit got out quickly and led 20-2 after the first quarter. The Redskins got a big boost on defense as Brandon Flett brought down 14 rebounds.
Selkirk was led by Austin Robertson with 18 points and Jacob Couch added 15 points with 15 rebounds.
District 9 1B
Colton 68, Waitsburg 51: The Wildcats (16-9) topped the Cardinals (15-6) in the District 9 1B second-place game at Colfax HS.
Colton advances to next weekend’s regional tournament.
