GSL girls: Aspyn Adams scores 33 points and Mt. Spokane advances to regionals
Aspyn Adams scored 33 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter, and visiting Mt. Spokane beat Rainier Beach 69-58 on Tuesday in a 3A District 2/5/8 glue crossover game in Seattle.
Mt. Spokane (19-5), ranked 19th in state 3A in the final WIAA RPI ratings, moves on to a regional game this weekend.
Rainier Beach (18-8), the Metro 3A-Sound League co-champ, was ranked 16 in state 3A.
Adams hit four of her eight 3-pointers in a 32-point fourth quarter for the Wildcats. Rainier Beach led 46-37 at the end of three quarters.
Jaidyn Lyman scored 24 points, with 12 coming in the fourth-quarter blitz. Lyman hit 7 of 8 free throws down the stretch – and 11 of 12 overall – as Rainier Beach was forced to foul at the end of the game.
Mt. Spokane started the final frame with a 9-0 and 13-2 run, started with a Lyman 3 and punctuated by a pair of 3s from Adams. The second tied it at 48, then Adams made a pair from the line to give the Wildcats the lead.
Rainier Beach tied it at 50 on a bucket by Marium Lilly, but the next time down Averi Adams drilled a 3-pointer, then after a stop Aspyn Adams hit back-to-back from from long distance to put Mt. Spokane up by nine.
From there, Lyman took over at the line to help the Wildcats move into the regional round at state.
Ni Rae Petty led Rainier Beach with 16 points.
