Oregon woman who regularly visits Spokane County arrested for having 44 images of child pornography on her tablet

A woman who lives in Oregon but spends weeks at a time in northern Spokane County was arrested and charged with multiple counts of possession of child pornography.

Shannon M. Travis, 33, was found to have 44 depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct on her Amazon Kindle tablet, according to court documents. Deputies were alerted to her several months ago because she uploaded a known image of child pornography at her boyfriend’s home north of Chattaroy.

Last week, a Spokane County Sheriff’s deputy contacted Travis at the residence and asked her if she’d ever viewed any images of child pornography. According to court documents, she admitted to viewing an image, but said it was sent over the social media site Kik, and that when she saw it “she deleted it and blocked the sender.”

Deputies asked Travis if she would be okay with them searching the tablet, and she agreed and signed a search consent card, court documents state.

After a forensics specialists viewed the contents of the tablet, it was determined there were 44 images of child pornography stored on the tablet, including pictures and videos.

Travis voluntarily agreed to an interview with deputies, where she admitted they were hers. She told deputies she “used the images for therapy, since she was sexually assaulted as a child,” according to court documents.
