Boys regionals: Ryan Ricks scores 26 points and Northwest Christian advances to state 2B tourney

Ryan Ricks led all scorers with 26 points with 11 rebounds and Northwest Christian (23-1) defeated Brewster 61-57 on Friday in a 2B regional round game at Wenatchee HS.

Northwest Christian advances to the state tournament second round on Thursday at the Arena. Because Brewster was one of the top eight seeds, it advances to a state first round game on Wednesday.

Asher Cox added 18 points for NWC, the Northeast 2B champs.

Northwest Christian jumped out to a nine-point lead at halftime, but Brewster picked it up in the second half. Edgar Najera nailed three 3-pointers in the third quarter to spark Brewster as they outscored the Crusaders 33-28 in the half, but Northwest Christian was able to hang on.

Brewster was led by Joe Taylor with 21 points and Najera finished with 19.

1B

Odessa-Harrington 70, Cedar Park Christian 65: Jayd Jennings scored 17 points and the Titans (16-8) beat the Lions (19-7) in a 1B regional round game at Mountlake Terrace HS.

Odessa-Harrington advances to a state first round game on Wednesday at the Arena.

Jennings came off the bench and hit four 3-pointers, with three of those in the fourth quarter. Camden Weber helped seal things up with a couple of late free throws. Ryan Moffet scored 14 points and Colton Hunt added 11.

Erwin Wearly tallied 29 points to pace Cedar Park Christian, which was eliminated.

Wellpinit 62, Colton 55: Brandon Flett scored 24 points and the Redskins (19-6) beat the Wildcats (16-10) in a 1B regional round game at Cheney HS.

Wellpinit advances to a first round state game on Wednesday at the Arena while Colton is eliminated.

Wellpinit led 20-8 after the first, but Colton got its deficit to three points at halftime. In the second half, Wellpinit edged Colton 34-30 to hold on for the victory.

Cedric Bowen scored 14 points and Shaylon Tonasket added 12 for Wellpinit.

Colton was led by Brady Chadwick with 13 points and Grant Kinzer added 11.
