Man tells police the clothes he’s wearing aren’t his

A man tracked down by a police dog after an armed robbery Thursday evening gave the “these aren’t my clothes” defense to the officers who found him.

A man delivering pizza for Papa John’s told police he was robbed at gunpoint just after he delivered a pizza in the 1900 block of East Sinto Avenue just after 7 p.m., according to court documents. He handed over his cash and described the robber as wearing a black long-sleeved shirt, red pants, a red bandanna and a black boonie hat.

A police dog followed a trail to the intersection of Sharp and Pittsburgh, where officers found 25-year-old Jonathan M. Buttrom and another man. Buttrom was wearing the clothing described by the victim, but told police that a friend had just given them to him, according to court documents. He said the friend also gave him the cash and a .22-caliber pistol police found on him.

Buttrom, a convicted felon, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm. Last year he pleaded guilty to harassment after threatening to kill a police officer and his family.
