Man returning from vacation finds woman in his apartment

A man who left his Spokane apartment for two weeks of vacation came home to find his electronics missing and a woman staying in his apartment.

The man told police he returned home to 908 W. First Ave. late Sunday to find electronics, wine, cologne, blankets and a suitcase missing from his apartment. He also found women’s clothing that did not belong to him, and his furniture had been moved around, according to court documents.

However, the apartment door was locked and there was no sign that someone had broken in.

On Monday he again was gone when the apartment manager heard a noise inside the apartment and knocked on the door. A woman answered. Police were called and arrested the woman, identified as Jessica M. Mullins, 31.

Mullins had a key to the apartment and told police that she had been asked to house sit, according to court documents. However, the resident of the apartment told police he didn’t know the woman and only had one key. The manager told police that the apartment locks were not changed after the previous tenants moved out.

Mullins was booked into the Spokane County Jail on suspicion of residential burglary and possession of a controlled substance.
