Area girls: Keelie Lawler helps Timberlake avenge earlier loss to Lapwai

Keelie Lawler scored 17 points to help host Timberlake (11-2) avenge an earlier loss to Lapwai (10-1), 59-40, in a battle of top-ranked teams in a nonleague game on Wednesday.

Lapwai, ranked No. 1 in Class 1A by Idaho state media poll, got out to a 16-8 lead after the first quarter.

Timberlake, ranked No.1 in Class 3A in the poll, used a 20-9 second quarter to get back in the game, then held strong on defense the second half, outscoring Lapwai 31-15 to take over.

McKeeley Tonkin added 10 points for Timberlake.

Garfield-Palouse 37, Waitsburg 27: Payson Griner led the Vikings (2-3, 2-2) with 19 points and four steals in a win over the visiting Cardinals (0-3, 0-2) in Southeast 1B action.

G-P led 26-22 heading into the fourth, but held Waitsburg to five points in the final frame. The Vikings forced 30 turnovers and committed 13.

Katie Arrasmith added 10 points for G-P.

Dayton 45, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 37: Jenna Phillips, Sydney Andrews and Shayla Currin all scored 10 points to help the visiting Bulldogs (7-0) edge past the Broncos (5-4) in the last minutes in a nonleague matchup.

Dayton outscored LRS 15-9 in the fourth quarter. LRS was led by Eliza Galbreath with 12 points and Peyton Curtis added 11.
