Area girls: Riley Denton hits half-court heave to lift Clarkston over East Valley

Riley Denton hit a game-winning half-court shot at the buzzer and visiting Clarkston (6-5, 3-2) edged Great Northern League leader East Valley (7-6, 4-1) 44-41 on Tuesday.

Denton scored 21 points for Clarkston and her game-winning 3 capped an 18-9 fourth-quarter comeback. Alea Wohl chipped in 15 points for the Bantams.

Emily Fletcher led East Valley with 12 points and Brie Holecek added 11.

West Valley 43, Cheney 39: Grace Phan scored 13 points to help the visiting Eagles (8-5, 2-3) top the Blackhawks (8-4, 3-2).

Sophie Stahl-Hamilton added nine points for West Valley, which used a 14-10 third quarter to gain the upper hand.

Hailee Huff led the Blackhawks with nine points.

Northeast A

Medical Lake 48, Lakeside (WA) 36: Jayda Noble and Jaycee Oliver scored 10 points apiece and the Cardinals (9-2, 6-0) topped the visiting Eagles (7-4, 4-1).

Medical Lake led 43-22 after three quarters and held on despite being outscored 14-5 in the fourth.

Hallie Jensen led Lakeside with 17 points.

Chewelah 52, Riverside 28: Maggie Cobb scored 17 points and the visiting Cougars (8-3, 4-2) handled the Rams (2-10, 0-6).

Krislyn Koler added 14 points for Chewelah, which jumped out to a 19-4 lead after the first quarter and used a 15-7 run in the fourth to pull away.

Kendrah Shenefelt led Riverside with 11 points.

Freeman 33, Deer Park 30: Isabelle Miller scored 13 points to lead the Scotties (3-9, 2-4) over the visiting Stags (6-6, 3-3).

Grace Holt made a baseline runner with four seconds left to help Freeman escape with the win.

Deer Park was led by Hava Fairbanks with 12 points.

Newport 67, Colville 59: Sydni Lewis scored eight points in the first quarter and finished with 17 to help the Grizzlies (4-8, 3-3) beat the visiting Indians (3-9, 2-4).

Madi Hosstee had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Newport, which led 18-7 after the first quarter.

Hayden Hartman scored 22 points and Hallie Cox added 10 for Colville.

Northeast 2B

Liberty 60, Wilbur-Creston 36: Christine Denny had 24 points and seven steals in three quarters to help the Lancers (12-0, 8-0) beat the visiting Wildcats (6-5, 4-3) and stay perfect in the South Division.

Aleena Cook scored eight points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Liberty.

Ireland Corrigan led Wilbur-Creston with 12 points.

Northeast 1B

Republic 68, Selkirk 53: Shania Graham scored 29 points – her fourth straight game with 20-plus points – and the visiting Tigers (12-1, 8-0) topped the Rangers (11-2, 6-2) to extend their lead in the North Division to two games.

Graham had scored 38, 24 and 40 points in her last three.

Graham and Michelle VanSlyke combined for 16 of Republic’s 26 points in the second quarter to earn a 40-23 lead at intermission. VanSlyke finished with 16 points, Kailee Rittel had 12 and Lily Beckwith added 11.

Jenna Couch and Gabi Rick scored 16 points apiece to pace Selkirk.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 58, Valley Christian 29: Gabi Isaak led all scorers with 21 points to help the Warriors (10-3, 6-1) defeat the visiting Panthers (6-7, 5-3) to increase their lead in the South Division to two games.

Berlyn Hunt added 13 points for ACH, which led 26-14 at halftime and pulled away with a 16-5 fourth quarter.

Phoebe Trigsted led Valley Christian with 12 points and Kendra Pope added 10.

Curlew 59, Northport 41: Korin Baker scored 18 points to help the visiting Cougars (8-4, 6-3) defeat the Mustangs (1-11, 0-7).

MeganJoe Beedle added 16 points and Annaliese Fanning had for Curlew.

Hailey Young led Northport with 20 points.

Inchelium 49, Cusick 28: Randi Finley made five 3-pointers in a row and finished with 20 points as the visiting Hornets (7-3, 5-3) defeated the Panthers (1-9, 1-7).

Rylee Desautel scored 14 points for Inchelium. The Hornets went on an 18-8 in the third quarter to seize momentum.

Allison Nomee led Cusick with 10 points.

Wellpinit 81, Odessa-Harrington 55: Christina Carden-Flett scored 16 points with 16 rebounds to lead the Redskins (5-4, 2-3) over the visiting Titans (1-9, 1-5).

Mariah Sherwood scored nine points with eight assists for Wellpinit, which pulled away with a 31-14 fourth quarter.

5A Inland Empire

Post Falls 46, Coeur d’Alene 44: Melody Kempton scored 17 points with 10 rebounds, Bayley Brennan hit the game-winning shot and the visiting Trojans (11-0, 3-0) edged the Vikings (5-7, 0-3).

Brennan finished with 11 points for Post Falls.

Kayla Fagan led Coeur d’Alene with 16 points.

Intermountain

Coeur d’Alene Charter at Timberlake: Keelie Lawler and McKeeley Tonkin paced the Tigers (12-2, 3-0) with nine points apiece in a win over the visiting Panthers (7-5, 0-4).

Defending state champ Timberlake raced out to a 22-4 lead after one quarter and led 42-6 at halftime.

Nonleague

Asotin 55, Kendrick 31: Kylan Hernandez scored 15 points and the Panthers (3-4) beat the visiting Tigers (6-8).

Adrienne Washington added 14 points for Asotin.

Harley Cope led Kendrick for nine points.
