Mikayla Ferenz scores 28 points to lead Idaho women over Weber State

Mikayla Ferenz scored 28 points, Geraldine McCorkell added 22 and Idaho (7-8, 2-2) dropped visiting Weber State (8-7, 2-2) in a Big Sky showdown on Thursday in Moscow.

Idaho has won two of three while the loss halts a modest two-game win streak for Weber State.

Ferenz and McCorkell combined to shoot 18 of 38 from the field, with Ferenz hitting 5 of 8 from beyond the arc. Idaho shot 49.3 percent as a team.

Brooke Reilly added 16 points with nine rebounds and Taylor Pierce chipped in with 11 points.

Jocelyn Adams and Kailie Quinn paced Weber State with 17 points apiece, while Emily Drake added 12. The Wildcats shot under 37 percent and hit 6 of 29 (20.7 percent) on 3-point attempts.

Weber State jumped out to a 28-17 lead after the first quarter, but Idaho owned the second quarter 25-17 and the Vandals trailed by three, 45-42, at intermission.

Idaho took a 57-55 lead on a 3-pointer by Ferenz with 5:27 left in the third quarter, then used a 10-4 run to take a 10-point lead, 71-61, at the end of three. Weber State didn’t threaten down the stretch.

The Vandals host Idaho State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
