Whitworth women edged out by 18th-ranked Puget Sound

Jamie Lange and Samone Jackson scored 18 points apiece and 18th-ranked Puget Sound (13-1, 5-0), tied for the Northwest Conference lead with Whitman, topped Whitworth (6-8, 2-3) 78-71 on Friday at the Whitworth Fieldhouse.
Whitworth led by four at 66-62 with 4:41 left after a 3-pointer by Courtney Gray. But the Pirates then went cold, hitting just 2 of 8 from the field down the stretch with four turnovers as Puget Sound closed the game on a 16-5 run.
Alexis Noren scored 14 points and Caitlyn Malvar added 11 for Puget Sound, which had 11 steals.
Grace Douglas paced Whitworth with 14 points. Jessica Thoens finished with 13 points and Madison Moffat added 12 points and nine rebounds.
