Area boys: Derrick Hoene scores 15 to help Clarkston rout Cheney

Derrick Hoene scored 15 points and Clarkston (13-2, 8-0), ranked third in state 2A according to the latest RPI rankings, crushed visiting Cheney (8-8, 1-7) 72-30 on Saturday in Great Northern League play.

Jett Sobotta added 11 points for Clarkston, which raced out to a 22-7 lead after the first quarter and led 26-16 at halftime.

Devin Cook led Cheney with seven points.

Pullman 61, East Valley 56: Jacob Wells scored 20 points and the Greyhounds (11-4, 4-3) defeated the visiting Knights (8-8, 3-5).

Isaiah Strong scored 13 points and Jake Cillay added 10 for Pullman, ranked sixth in state 2A. Pullman limited East Valley to two points in overtime.

Gage Rogers led East Valley with 17 points, while Jeremiah Hillard had 11 and Treyshaun Bracey added 10.

Northeast A League

Freeman 61, Lakeside (WA) 43: Dylan Oja took the spotlight with 20 points and the visiting Scotties (15-1, 10-0), ranked first in state 1A, beat the Eagles (8-8, 6-4) to stay undefeated in league play.

Freeman led 32-27 at intermission but used a 20-6 third quarter to pull away. Michael Coumont added 14 points and Ryan Maine scored 12 points for Freeman.

Jacob Gifford led Lakeside with 10 points.

Medical Lake 55, Deer Park 42: Xavier Butler and Nizhole Sherman scored 13 points apiece, Trenten Garza added 11 and the visiting Cardinals (12-4, 8-2), ranked eighth in the state, topped the Stags (6-10, 4-6).

Medical Lake raced out to a 10-point lead after the first quarter and used a 10-5 run in the fourth to seal it.

Isaac Berglund led Deer park with 12 points.

Newport 56, Chewelah 46: Danny Bradbury scored 19 points and the visiting Grizzlies (10-6, 7-3), ranked 12th in 1A, outlasted the Cougars (6-8, 3-7).

Newport, which led 11-2 after the first quarter, has won five of its last six games. Robby Owen scored 16 points in the win.

Elan Krausz and Griffin Stroyan scored 10 points apiece for Chewelah.

Colville 69, Riverside 34: Alberto Cisneros dropped 19 points and the Indians (4-12, 2-8) defeated the visiting Rams (2-15, 0-10).

Ty Sandaine added 14 points for Colville, which took a 17-7 lead after one.

Riverside was led by Kory Cross with 11 points.

Northeast 2B

Colfax 61, Kettle Falls 27: Danny Robinson scored 13 points and visiting Colfax (11-4, 9-2) beat Kettle Falls (4-11, 1-10) in the battle of the Bulldogs.

Colfax, ranked 12th in state 2B, is riding a five-game win streak. Caleb Berquist and Jared Kneale scored 10 points for Colfax, which led 36-10 at intermission.

Kettle Falls was lead by Matt Thompson with 10 points.

Springdale 66, Tekoa-Rosalia 51: Chandler Carr scored 19 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and had six assists to lead the Chargers (10-5, 7-5) past the visiting Timberwolves (4-11, 2-10).

Austin Howder scored a game-high 24 points for Springdale, which built an 11-point lead after the first quarter and cruised.

The Timberwolves were carried by Devin Cripe with 18 points.

St. George’s 72, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 19: Erik Farias lit up the scoreboard, shooting 11 for 17 from the field for 27 points, to lift the Dragons (9-6, 8-3) over visiting Lind-Ritzville/Sprague (6-9, 4-7).

Farias hit 5 of 7 from 3-point range with seven assists and five steals.

Bryce Kelly led the Broncos with eight points.

Asotin 53, Wilbur-Creston 38: Eli Engledow scored 17 points and the visiting Panthers (7-4, 7-4) defeated the Wildcats (5-10, 5-8).

Chase Klappenbach added 11 points for Asotin, which used a 16-7 run in the third to pull away.

Tucker Odegaard paced Wilbur-Creston with 20 points.

Davenport 54, Reardan 29: Izaiah Bowdish scored 23 points, hitting 7 of 8 3-point attempts, and the Gorillas (6-9, 5-7) defeated the visiting Indians (2-13, 1-11).

Jaden Flett added 11 points and 10 rebounds for Davenport, which led 32-10 at the half.

Andrew Alsept and James Baris led Reardan with nine points apiece.

Northeast 1B

Selkirk 63, Northport 34: Jacob Couch scored 29 points with 17 rebounds and the Rangers (13-4, 10-3) routed the visiting Mustangs (6-11, 4-9).

Austin Robertson scored 16 points for 17th- ranked Selkirk.

Aiden Middlesworth had 13 points and Trenton Baribault added 10 for Northport.

Wellpinit 90, Columbia 41: Brandon Fleet nearly recorded a triple-double with 21 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists to help the 15th-ranked Redskins (12-3, 8-3) defeat the visiting Lions (2-13, 2-10).

Cedric Bowen added 23 points for Wellpinit, which scored 30 points in the first quarter and limited Columbia to 13 second-half points.

Corbin Nelson scored a team-high 16 points for Columbia, while Riley McLain added 10.

Inchelium 74, Curlew 28: Terrence Holford led three in double figures with 15 points and the Hornets (9-7, 9-5) romped over the visiting Cougars (5-11, 5-10).

McKennon Andrews and Jaden Erickson scored 11 points apiece for Inchelium, which led 26-4 after the first quarter.

Justin Hanks led Curlew with 13 points.

Odessa-Harrington 74, Valley Christian 31: Ryan Moffet scored 32 points and the visiting Titans (9-6, 9-5) defeated the Panthers (1-16, 1-11).

Jayd Jennings scored 14 points and Camden Weber added 11 for Odessa-Harrington, which forced 32 turnovers.

Valley Christian was led by Ben Riehle with 12 points.

Cusick 43, Republic 38: Dylan Hendershott scored 13 points and the Panthers (8-9, 8-5) defeated the visiting Tigers (6-11, 4-9).

Colton Hansen added 10 points for Cusick, which led 27-16 at intermission.

Joe Koepke led Republic with 17 points.

Southeast 1B

Pomeroy 67, St. John-Endicott 32: Devon Caruso and Jace Gwinn scored 13 points a piece and the visiting Pirates (12-1, 10-0), ranked fourth in state 1B, defeated the Eagles (2-12, 1-10).

A 28-2 third quarter set Pomeroy apart from St. John-Endicott after a close first half. Oscar Morin scored 12 points and Ryan Wolf add 11 for Pomeroy.

Cooper Lundberg led SJ-E with 12 points.

Oakesdale 72, Prescott 49: Kieron Anderson scored 22 points with 11 rebounds and the host Nighthawks (6-9, 4-6) routed the eighth-ranked Tigers (8-5, 6-3).

After an even first half, Oakesdale surged with 46 second-half points. Cal Gregory added 19 points and nine boards for the ’Hawks.

Travis Crockett led Prescott with 27 points and nine rebounds and Jose Gonzales added 11 points.

Intermountain League

Kellogg 63, Bonners Ferry 30: Chase Jerome scored 18 points and the visiting Wildcats (11-2, 3-0) handled the Badgers (3-6, 0-1).

Toby Colburn added 13 for Kellogg, ranked third in state 3A Idaho media poll.

Chris Sabin led Bonners Ferry with seven points.

Central Idaho

St. Maries 59, Grangeville 55: Jacob Sieler scored 18 points and the visiting Lumberjacks (8-3, 3-0) defeated the Bulldogs (4-6, 0-3).

Grangeville cut St. Maries’ lead to two with a minute remaining, but Kiefer Gibson’s 3-point field goal from the top of the key, his fourth 3-pointer of the night, sealed it. Gibson finished with 15 points and Brady Martin added 14.

Patrick Shomacher led Grangeville with 16 points.

Nonleague

Coeur d’Alene 67, Big Sky 48: Joey Naccarato scored 16 points and Vikings (6-7) defeated the visiting Eagles (1-7).

Colson Yankoff scored 14 points and Sam Matheson added 13 for CdA, which used a pair of 20-plus point quarters in the second and third to pull away.

Nick Wakai led Big Sky with 19 points.
