Around the remote: ‘Riverdale’ arrives with danger, dark secrets

DON’T MISS: “Riverdale” – This one could either be really fun – or a complete disaster. Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead and the whole comic book gang show up in this subversive live-action drama. But you may not recognize them. It’s a radically different take on the wholesome town, which turns out to be rife with danger and dark secrets. One of those secrets involves our beloved redhead (KJ Apa) having an affair with his teacher, Miss Grundy. Yikes. 9 p.m. Thursday, The CW.

SUNDAY: Season 2 of the compelling Civil War drama “Mercy Street” picks up immediately after the dramatic events at the end of the first season finale. The series continues to explore life at the chaotic Mansion House Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia. 7 p.m., KSPS; 8 p.m, KCDT.

SUNDAY: On “Secrets of the Six Wives,” historian Lucy Worsley explores the lives of Henry VIII’s many spouses. First up: Catherine of Aragon, whose failure to give him a son led him to turn his eyes toward Anne Boleyn. 9 p.m., KSPS; 10 p.m, KCDT.

MONDAY: “Supergirl” returns to action tonight with an episode that finds Kara drawn to the story of a missing woman. Unfortunately, her quest results in her being thrust through a portal to another planet where the downtrodden are sold as slaves. 8 p.m., The CW.

TUESDAY: “The New Edition Story” is a three-part miniseries that follows the iconic 1980s boy band from its humble beginnings in Boston to megastardom without skimping on all the bickering and back-stabbing that came with it. Bryshere Y. Gray (“Empire”) and Elijah Kelley (“The Wiz Live!”) are among the cast. 9 p.m., BET.

TUESDAY: As Season 2 of “Outsiders” gets underway, the battle between the Farrell clan and the town of Blackburg escalates, leaving the Farrells more isolated in the rugged hills of Appalachia than ever before. 9 p.m., WGN America.

WEDNESDAY: The enchanting – and scary – adventures continue as “The Magicians” returns for Season 2. In the wake of their horrific battle with The Beast, Quentin and his friends scramble for a new plan of defense and seek the thrones of Fillory. 9 p.m., Syfy.

WEDNESDAY: The lively legal series “Suits” returns for its midseason premiere. Now that Jessica has departed, managing partners Harvey and Louis are forced to put aside their considerable differences in an effort to keep the struggling firm afloat. 10 p.m., USA.

THURSDAY: For “Scandal” fans, the wait is finally over. As the crazed drama returns, the election results for the presidential race between Mellie Grant and Francisco Vargas are announced and the results are shocking. Sound familiar? 9 p.m., ABC.

FRIDAY: Don’t you hate it when this happens? On tonight’s episode of “Rosewood,” a victim is presumed dead, then comes to life just as the autopsy begins. 8 p.m., Fox.

SATURDAY: “Detroit Steel” is a new unscripted series that celebrates the Motor City’s automotive legacy. It follows the members of a car customization shop who give old, ailing vehicles a supercharged rebirth. 10 p.m., History.
