Former wrestling coach John Owen pinch-hits at CV

When John Owen retired as Central Valley’s wrestling coach two years ago, he never expected to return.
But when Owen’s replacement, Shaun Williams, called just before Christmas, Owen knew something was up.
“He asked, ‘What are you doing?’,” Owen recalled.
Owen told Williams what his morning routine had become – coffee, read the newspaper and go for an occasional run.
Williams called because he needed help. A week after Christmas, he was scheduled to report for an eight-week stint of National Guard duty. He would miss the rest of the season.
So Williams put the interim tag of head coach on Owen’s son, Brian, and John Owen agreed to return to help his son for the balance of the season.
