Area girls: Elle Burland paces GNL champs East Valley over Cheney

Elle Burland scored 20 points and the visiting Knights (13-6, 10-1) – the Great Northern League champion – handled the Blackhawks (9-9, 6-5) 62-40 on Saturday.

East Valley, ranked 10th in state 2A, raced out to a 23-9 lead after the first quarter and limited Cheney to single digits in the third and fourth quarters.

Burland scored 14 points in the second half, including three 3-point baskets. EV’s Genesis Wilkinson scored 12 points, while Hannah Rowland and Brie Holececk added 10 points apiece.

Holly Flynn led Cheney with 10 points.

West Valley 56, Pullman 45: Alyssa Amann scored 11 points and the Eagles (11-7, 5-5) defeated the visiting Greyhounds (3-14, 0-9) 56-45 on Saturday.

Trailing by seven at intermission, the Eagles turned it around in the second half with some great defense. Caitlyn Hossfeld grabbed seven rebounds and the Eagles nailed nine 3-pointers in the game. Alyssa Amann added 11 for WV.

Pullman was led by Rian Clear with 14 points.

Northeast 2B

St. George’s 42, Wilbur-Creston 33: Hailey Higashi scored 17 points, including three 3-pointers in the first quarter, and the visiting Dragons (15-2, 12-1) outlasted the Wildcats (9-8, 7-6) in a defensive battle.

St. George’s, ranked sixth in state 2B, jumped out to an 11-6 lead in the first and gained three points in both the second and the third, keeping W-C just at bay.

Karlee Maioho led the Wildcats with 11 points.

Davenport 61, Northwest Christian 38: Sydney Abbott scored 13 points to help the visiting Gorillas (15-2, 11-2) defeat the Crusaders (8-9, 5-8).

Davenport, ranked fourth in state 2B, outscored NWC 15-0 in the first quarter. Madison Abbott added 12 points and Sydney Zieler had 10 for the Gorillas.

Natalie Smith scored 12 points to lead NWC.

Kettle Falls 49, Springdale 41: Taylor Dunlap scored 14 points and the visiting Bulldogs (4-13, 2-11) topped the Chargers (1-16, 0-13).

The Bulldogs tightened up the defense and held the Chargers to only eight points in the second half.

Springdale was carried by Nichole Beckman with 21 points.

Northeast 1B

Selkirk 58, Columbia 23: Gabi Rick scored 10 points as the visiting Rangers (16-3, 11-3) secured second place in the Northeast 1B North with a win over the Lions (0-18, 0-14) 58-23 on Saturday.

Allison Petrich scored nine points for Selkirk, 10th in state 1B, which led 36-10 at intermission.

Columbia was led by Gabreanna Singer with 14 points on senior night.

Valley Christian 63, Inchelium 61: Phoebe Trigsted scored 29 points and the Panthers (11-8, 10-4) defeated the visiting Hornets (9-8, 7-7).

Callie Roth scored four points – but all late in the fourth – and her two free throws put Valley Christian up by four points. After Inchelium responded with a layup to come within two, Valley Christian ran the clock out on their final possession.

Inchelium was led by Rylee Desautel with 19 points and Meika Heath added 17.

Southeast 1B

Colton 76, Waitsburg 19: Dakota Patchen paced the top-ranked Wildcats (16-2, 11-1) with 22 points while Meghan Devorak tacked on 15 points in a rout of the host Cardinals (2-13, 2-9).

Abby Kelly recorded 12 points with five rebounds, Kendyl Druffel had six points and six assists and Georgia Meyer notched six points and six rebounds.

Devon Harshman led Waitsburg with 12 points.

Touchet 48, St. John-Endicott 27: Paytyn Richartz scored 14 points and Dana Jagger added 12 to lead the visiting Indians (8-6, 6-6) over the Eagles (2-16, 2-10), completing a season sweep.

Alynn Harder scored seven points with seven rebounds and Riley Lamb added seven points for SJ-E.

North Star League

Genesis Prep 50, Mullan 18: Bella Murekatete scored 18 points and the Jaguars (10-4, 6-1) crushed the visiting Tigers (0-11, 0-7).

Rachel Schroeder scored 16 points for Genesis Prep, which led 22-2 after the first quarter.

Hanna Cote led Mullan with seven points.

Nonleague

Sandpoint 67, St. Maries 42: Grace Kirscher scored 24 points and the Bulldogs (8-11) beat the visiting Lumberjacks (12-4).

Shelby Holder led St. Maries, ranked fourth in state 2A but playing up three levels, with 14 points.
