Lewiston’s Austin Byrer named Gatorade Idaho runner of year

Lewiston senior Austin Byrer has been named the 2016-17 Gatorade Idaho boys cross country runner of the year.

Byrer won the State 5A championship last fall in a time of 15 minutes, 58.53 seconds – 9.86 seconds ahead of the runner-up. He led Lewiston to fifth place.

The annual award honors athletic and academic achievement. Byrer carries a 3.73 grade-point average. Undefeated in Idaho meets, he won seven of eight races.
