Cristian Inoa slugs grand slam in Spokane Indians’ 13-6 win over Boise Hawks

Tai Tiedemann’s overpowering start and Cristian Inoa’s first career grand slam led the Spokane Indians to a 13-6 Northwest League win over the Boise Hawks on Sunday night.

Tiedemann threw five scoreless innings while walking none and striking out three in supporting a Spokane offense that came up with a nine-run fifth inning.

The Indians (6-12) scored their first run in the second after Nick Kaye singled to drive in Inoa for a 1-0 lead.

Curtis Terry led off the fourth inning with a double and scored on another double by Austin O’Banion and extended the lead to 2-0.

Then came the big fifth inning. Spokane got one run on a bases-loaded fielding error by Boise shortstop Matt McLaughlin which scored Chad Smith.

Inoa followed with his first professional grand slam for a 7-0 lead.

Kobie Taylor and Jonah McReynolds hit back-to-back RBI triples with Charles Leblanc then scoring McReynolds on a groundout. Smith walked for the second time in the inning, moved to third on Curtis Terry’s second hit of the inning and scored on a balk for an 11-0 lead as the Indians sent 13 men to the plate.

The Indians kept Boise (9-9) scoreless until Daniel Jipping hit a two-run home run off reliever Jacob Rogers in the sixth inning.

Inoa’s stellar offensive night continued as he drove in two more runs in the eighth inning to lead 13-2.

Inoa finished 2 for 4 with six RBIs with the Indians collecting 15 hits.

Rogers faced more trouble in the eighth as a leadoff walk was followed by a home run by J.B. Moss. Tyler Nevin also hit a two-run homer and Rogers gave way to Dario Beltre.

Beltre finished the eighth and pitched the ninth to secure the victory.

The Indians and Hawks meet for their fifth and final game of the series tonight at 6:15.
