The City of Cheney has issues a mandatory irrigation shutdown for residents and businesses to replenish water after a mechanical failure at a production well.

The city announced the shutdown on its website Thursday.

One of the city’s largest production wells shut down June 30 after a mechanical failure, which has put the city’s reservoirs at historically low levels. The well should be repaired in the next few weeks, the post said.

If people comply with the shutdown, the reservoir should be at a safe level for some restricted irrigation next week, the post said.
