Around the remote: Manning goes deep as host of ESPYS

DON’T MISS: “The 2017 ESPYS” – Since leaving behind the rigors of the NFL, former quarterback Peyton Manning apparently has a lot of time on his hands. So why not host the glitzy awards show that annually rounds up top athletes and celebrities to commemorate the past year in sports? In addition to the usual prizes for standout teams and achievements, the 25th “ESPYS” will honor the late Eunice Kennedy Shriver with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award for her work in creating the Special Olympics. 8 p.m. Wednesday, ABC.

SUNDAY: From producers Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, “The Nineties” is a seven-part documentary series that will put you in a nostalgic mood with memories of the decade’s iconic moments and influential people. First up: Popular TV shows, including “Seinfeld,” “My So-Called Life” and “The Sopranos.” 9 p.m., CNN.

SUNDAY: “The Defiant Ones” is a documentary series that takes a deep dive into the careers – and unlikely partnership – of influential music industry titans Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine. Included: Interviews with, among others, Snoop Dogg, Bruce Springsteen, Gwen Stefani, Bono, Eminem, Stevie Nicks, Kendrick Lamar, Tom Petty and Lady Gaga. 9 p.m., HBO.

MONDAY: The new drama “Will” whisks us back to the early years of William Shakespeare’s (Laurie Davidson) life. In the opener, our title character arrives from a small town to the wild streets of 1589 London with little more than his dreams and a treacherous letter. 9 p.m., TNT.

TUESDAY: Break out the peanuts and Cracker Jack. Standout players from the American League and National Leagues face off in the Major League Baseball All-Star Game in Miami. Joe Buck and John Smoltz have the call. 5 p.m., Fox.

TUESDAY: “The Bold Type,” a new drama series about the staffers of a women’s magazine called “Scarlet,” debuts with a two-hour episode. In the opener, a newly promoted writer (Katie Stevens) gets nervous when assigned a story detailing why her ex broke up with her. 9 p.m., Freeform.

WEDNESDAY: And you thought you were having a bad day. In the new suspense thriller “Salvation,” an MIT grad student (Charlie Rowe) learns that a giant asteroid is just a few months away from colliding with Earth. 9 p.m., CBS.

WEDNESDAY: As the popular legal drama “Suits” returns for its seventh season, Mike returns to the firm as Harvey takes the reins. Will things change between the guys now that Mike is a legit lawyer? 9 p.m., USA.

THURSDAY: “Mike and the Mad Dog” is the latest engaging film in the “30 for 30” series. It tells the wild and turbulent story of Mike Francesa and Chris Russo, who changed sports-talk radio forever during their 20 years together on New York’s WFAN. 5 p.m., ESPN.

FRIDAY: This week, “Ginormous Food” takes us to New Orleans with an episode titled “Huge, Hot and Cheesy in the Big Easy.” Our mouths are already watering. 8 p.m., Food Network.

SATURDAY: On the latest episode of “Still Star-Crossed,” Benvolio finds himself in serious trouble and, surprisingly, turns to Rosaline for help. Meanwhile, Isabella travels to Venice to try and make peace with the Doge. 10 p.m., ABC.
