Miguel Aparicio leads Spokane Indians past Vancouver Canadians

VANCOUVER, B.C. – Miguel Aparicio’s bases-loaded single led the Spokane Indians (11-16) to a 6-4 win over the Vancouver Canadians (16-11) in the first game of a three-game Northwest League series on Wednesday night.

Spokane starter Tyler Phillips threw four innings and allowed seven hits, four runs, one walk, while he struck out five.

The Canadians bullpen took over in the third inning as starter Brody Rodning only lasted 2 ⅓ innings after he allowed two hits, two walks and struck out one.

The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning when Yonny Hernandez walked with the bases loaded to drive in Melvin Novoa for a 1-0 Indians lead.

Miguel Aparicio followed Hernandez’s walk by unloading the bases with a single to put Spokane ahead 5-0.

Vancouver responded in their half of the fourth with a grand slam by David Jacob to cut the lead to 5-4.

The bullpens continued to match zeroes until Novoa hit a sacrifice fly to score Tyler Ratliff in the seventh inning for a 6-4 lead.

Relief pitcher Noah Bremer made his Indians debut and threw two shutout innings and allowed one hit while striking out five.

Alex Eubanks pitched a perfect ninth inning against Vancouver to earn his second save.

The Indians and Canadians play the second game of the three-game series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. at Nat Bailey Stadium.
