Steven Gray’s 31 boosts Few Good Men in TBT win
Gonzaga alumni-loaded Few Good Men eased past Mostly Sports 89-47 in opening round of the The Basketball Tournament on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Steven Gray scored a game-high 31 points to pace second-seeded FGM, canning seven of his 12 3-point attempts. Former San Diego State forward Malcolm Thomas chipped in 12 points, nine rebounds and four blocks in the rout.
Mostly Sports, a No. 15 seed comprised of former small-college players, was held to a paltry 26 percent from the field.
Playing with just seven players, including player-coach Blake Stepp, FGM used a 27-4 first-half run to put Mostly Sports in an early double-digit hole.
Stepp tallied 14 points and six rebounds and fellow guard Jeremy Pargo added 12 points and six assists.
FGM advanced to the round of 32, where it will face Team Utah on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in a game that will be streamed on ESPN 3.
Team Utah, a team littered with University of Utah products, edged Team Fredette 100-97 on Saturday thanks to a last-second 3 by Tim Drisdom.
The Basketball Tournament is a 64-team, single elimination tournament with a winner-take-all prize of $2 million dollars.
