Tacos, pizza and hot dogs: Readers weigh in about where they think is tops
A recent list about where to find the best tacos in and around Spokane really resonated with readers, some of whom gave shout-outs to their favorite spots – spots the list missed – in the comments section via Facebook.
Same goes for similar lists for pizza and hot dogs.
So here are a few more places worth noting, with thanks to The Spokesman-Review readers who are mentioned below.
Tacos
Readers Mark Aguirre, Becky Stranz and Leslie Clark Ramsbacher all vouched for Choo Choo Tortas, known for its carnitas as well as its fast and friendly service, authentic street-style tacos and, of course, tortas. Look for carne asada, al pastor and adobada, among other fillings, as well as horchata, aguas frescas and a whole bunch of hot sauces. 10621 E. Sprague Ave. in Spokane Valley. (509) 891-0120.
Denise Otto Alexander said Dos Amigos “is great!!!” Find it at 12119 E. Trent Ave. in Spokane Valley. (509) 891-6555.
And Joie Hall recommended Fiesta Grande, 13411 E. 32nd Ave. and Rancho Viejo, 14201 E. Sprague Ave. in Spokane Valley and 3209 E. 57th Ave. in Spokane. Call (509) 927-8428 or (509) 448-3834. Fiesta Grande can be reached at (509) 924-8253.
Pizza
Rae Presnell called Pizza Rita a go-to, specifically the location on North Pines Road. “Great pizza, (and) they take all competitor(s) coupon(s)! Plus, the owners go above and beyond to make sure everyone has a great experience, and they do great things for our community.” Pizza Rita has four locations. Find them at pizzarita.net.
Jeremy W. Condon asked, “No Park Inn or Pac Ave.?” Park Inn Bar and Grill, or the PI, has been a South Hill institution since 1932. It’s at 103 W. Ninth Ave. Call (509) 624-8111. Find the menu online at parkinnspokane.com. Pacific Avenue Pizza, 2001 W. Pacific Ave., is a popular neighborhood spot in historic Browne’s Addition. Call (509) 443-5467.
Michael Kelso said, “Caruso’s has the best thin crust pizza I’ve had in Spokane.” Caruso’s Sandwich and Artisan Pizza has three locations. Find them at carusosandco.com.
Deborah Lawrence Hale and Jennifer Jade missed David’s Pizza. Find the popular local pizza place at 803 W. Mallon Ave. Call (509) 483-7460. davidspizza.com
Hot dogs
“Can’t beat the deal at Costco,” wrote Scott Sutherland – and several others agreed. “Part of what makes a Costco dog great is the price!” Mary Hensley Cutler said. A hot dog and a drink at Costco is $1.50 plus tax. That’s it.
The vendor on Sprague Avenue and University Road received many mentions. “I was disappointed but not surprised they didn’t list him” Timothy Conant wrote. So look for Frank’s Franks at that intersection.
