Cannons defeat Twin City Titans 5-2 in Legion State AAA opener

The American Legion State AAA Tournament began Saturday at Jackson Field and Hart Field, with the Cannons picking up the only win among the four Spokane-area participants.

The Cannons defeated the Twin City Titans 5-2 behind a complete-game seven-hitter by Connor Grytdal.

In other games involving area teams it was Central Washington Spuds 3, Mt. Spokane 1; Hanford Flames 10, Gonzaga Prep 1; and Yakima Pepsi-Pak 9, Shadle Park Shockers 8 in a game Shadle Park led 8-4 after two innings.

In the State AA Tournament at Walla Walla, there were two local winners on the first day as University blanked Capital 1-0 and Asotin defeated Olympic 5-4.
