Shadow women knocked out of NWPL playoffs by Washington Timbers
The Spokane Shadow women’s first team scored an early goal, but that was all they would manage in a 4-1 loss to the Washington Timbers in the semifinals of the Northwest Premier League playoffs on Sunday at the Spokane Polo Grounds.
After eliminating the defending league champions, the Timbers will play for the championship next week against the regular-season champion Seattle Stars, who were 3-0 winners Saturday night against Fuerza FC.
The Shadow opened the scoring 14 minutes into the match when left back Meaghan Bare worked her way up the left side and fired in from about 22 yards out. The Shadow had several opportunities over the next 10 minutes to add to the lead, but would rue their close calls.
The Timbers tied the score by halftime and added three goals in the second half to pull the upset.
