Man captured after police chase had arrest warrant in his pocket

A man who led deputies on a high-speed chase early Wednesday morning was found to have a warrant for his arrest in his pocket.

A deputy tried to pull over a car with loud exhaust and a missing hood just before 2 a.m. near Sunset Highway and Lewis Street. The car pulled over into the parking lot of the Cedar Village Motel when a woman was pushed or jumped from the slow-moving vehicle. The driver then sped away, running stop signs and driving recklessly, according to court documents.

An Airway Heights police officer deployed spike strips at Geiger Boulevard and Hayford Road, which flattened a front tire. The driver, identified as 41-year-old Daniel E. Palmer, made it onto eastbound Interstate 90 before pulling over.

Palmer lay down on the ground next to his car but resisted deputies as they tried to handcuff him, court documents state. After he was arrested, deputies found a Montana arrest warrant in his pocket and discovered he also had a warrant from Kootenai County on drug trafficking charges.

Palmer was booked into the Spokane County Jail on suspicion of attempting to elude police, resisting arrest and driving with a suspended license.
