Recaps for the Seattle Mariners top affiliates for Wednesday provided by team releases and wire reports.

Tacoma (AAA)

The Rainiers were off on Wednesday. Tacoma starts a series with the Fresno Grizzlies on Thursday at 7:05 p.m.

Arkansas (AA)

MIDLAND, Texas – J.P. Sportman homered and singled twice, driving in two runs as the Midland RockHounds (27-25) defeated the Arkansas Travelers (23-28) 7-5 on Wednesday.

Beau Taylor tripled and singled twice with an RBI and a run for Midland.

Kyle Finnegan struck Seth Mejias-Brean out with a runner on third to end the game for his seventh save of the season.

Midland took the lead in the first when it scored three runs, including a solo home run by Yairo Munoz.

Trailing 5-1, the Travelers cut into the deficit in the fifth inning when Chuck Taylor hit an RBI single, driving in Jeff Kobernus.

The RockHounds later tacked on a run in both the sixth and seventh innings. In the sixth, B. Taylor scored on a wild pitch, while Sportman hit an RBI single in the seventh.

Arkansas saw its comeback attempt come up short after Kyle Waldrop hit an RBI single and then scored on a two-run home run by Tyler Marlette in the eighth to cut the Midland lead to 7-5.

Midland southpaw Evan Manarino (1-0) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing two runs on nine hits over six innings. Opposing starter Lindsey Caughel (3-6) took the loss in the Texas League game after allowing five runs and 11 hits over five innings.

Several Travelers chipped in at the plate, as six players recorded at least two hits. Marlette homered and singled, driving home two runs.

Modesto (High-A)

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Joey Curletta hit a two-run home run and had two hits, driving in three, and Reggie McClain allowed just five hits over six innings as the Modesto Nuts (31-22) defeated the Inland Empire 66ers (25-28) 9-2 on Wednesday.

McClain (7-2) picked up the win after he struck out four while allowing one run.

Trailing 1-0 in the third, Inland Empire tied the game when Yunel Escobar hit an RBI single, driving in Cody Ramer.

The Nuts grabbed the lead with six runs in the sixth inning, including two RBI each from Braden Bishop and Chris Mariscal.

Jose Rodriguez (5-4) went 5 2/3 innings, allowing four runs and six hits in the California League game. He also struck out five and walked one.

For the 66ers, Ramer doubled twice and singled.

Clinton (Low-A)

BELOIT, Wis. – Nick Thurman and Kristian Brito hit grand slams to lead the Clinton LumberKings to a 13-3 win over the Beloit Snappers on Wednesday.

Clinton had a pair of big innings in the blowout victory, scoring four runs in both the first and third innings.

In the first, Thurman hit a grand slam, while Brito hit a grand slam in the third.

Michael Rivera (1-0) got the win in relief while Beloit starter Mitchell Jordan (1-4) took the loss in the Midwest League game. Jeffeson Medina pitched three scoreless innings for his first save of the season.
