Oregon man charged with sex crimes from 2008
ALBANY, Ore. – An Oregon man has been accused of raping a woman at a park nearly 10 years ago.
The Albany Democrat-Herald reported that 30-year-old John Benson questioned the statute of limitations at Monday’s arraignment and told the judge: “I shouldn’t even be here for this.”
Prosecutor Keith Stein said Benson knew the victim and forced himself on her after they had been drinking and smoking marijuana at a Lebanon park in 2008.
The Albany resident faces charges of rape, sex abuse and attempted sex abuse.
The prosecutor asked for $300,000 bail. The judge granted the request
Benson has prior convictions for attempted sodomy and attempted sex abuse.
