The Spokane Indians will host their annual Community FanFest at 1 p.m. Saturday at Avista Sadium to kick-start the 2017 Northwest League season.

In previous years, the event was open to only members of the team’s Banner Bank Diamond Club, a group made up of Indians ticket package holders. This year, the Indians have made the event free and open to the public.

FanFest will begin with an open batting practice in which fans can get a first look at some of the Indians’ new roster. The players will be available for autographs immediately following batting practice at 2 p.m.

Much of the final roster will be filled with players from the MLB draft, which starts Monday.

The team will introduce players to the crowd at 3 p.m. before beginning the home run derby, the final event of the day. The Indians will invite fans who are wearing a Spokane Indians Youth Baseball jersey onto the field to act as baserunners in the home run derby finals.

At the end of the derby, all fans are welcomed onto the field to circle the bases.

The ballpark will feature yard games, Wiffle Ball and inflatables for fans to enjoy throughout the day. There will also be a hot dog eating contest and opportunities for fans to sample the stadium’s new menu items. Regular concessions will also be open throughout the event.

The Indians open the season against the Boise Hawks on Thursday at Avista Stadium at 6:30 p.m. All fans who attend opening night, which will feature fireworks following the game, will receive a free magnet with this season’s schedule. Fans will also have a chance to win a new Toyota RAV4, presented by Toyota, Avista and KREM 2-TV.

Fans can call (509) 343-6886 or go to spokaneindians.com to purchase individual tickets and ticket packages.
