Man found dead in parking lot in downtown Spokane identified

A man found dead in an SUV in the 7-Eleven parking lot at Second Avenue and Division Street Tuesday has been identified as 41-year-old Baptiste W. Mathias.

The cause of death is still pending, according to the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s office.

The driver of a black GMC Yukon pulled into the parking lot after spotting an ambulance and paramedics there on an unrelated matter, according to police. The driver asked the paramedics for help, and they determined that Mathias was dead.

The driver is reportedly cooperating, and the death is under investigation.
