‘Dump Cake’

Don’t let the name fool you: “Dump Cake” is a “winner.”

That’s according to home cook Larrie Waterman of Colville, who submitted the recipe, which was given to him by his best friend, Loretta Redmer.

“We had a spirited friendly unannounced rivalry about desserts,” Waterman wrote in an email to the Food section. “We ate dinner and dessert, and then played cards usually every Friday night. When she made this cake it was a winner, hands down.”

Simply delicious and quick and easy to make.

2 cups flour

2 teaspoon soda

2 cups sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon salt

1 can apple pie filling (cut apples into smaller pieces.)

2 eggs

1/2 cup oil

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 cup walnuts (don’t chop too fine)

Powdered sugar, for garnish

Sift dry ingredients, then mix all ingredients, lightly stirring in walnuts last. Oil a 9-by-13-inch pan. Pour in batter and bake at 325 degrees in preheated oven for 1 hour or more. Let cool in pan. Sprinkle sifted powdered sugar on top for garnish.
