Oscar nominees “Jackie” and “Moana” new on VOD this week

What’s new for home viewing on video-on-demand and Netflix, Amazon Prime, and other streaming services.

Pay-Per-View / Video-On-Demand

Natalie Portman earned an Oscar nomination for portraying Jackie and her strength in the days after the assassination of JFK. Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larrain brings his passion for political and social history to his American film debut and his perspective is fascinating (R). Also on DVD and Blu-ray.

Disney’s animated musical adventure Moana sends a different kind of princess on a quest with a demigod (voiced by Dwayne Johnson) in ancient Polynesia. “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda co-wrote the original songs (PG). Also on DVD and Blu-ray.

Also new: the action drama Man Down with Shia LaBeouf and Kate Mara (R) and the horror film Incarnate with Aaron Eckhart (PG-13 and unrated versions).

Available same day as select theaters nationwide is the romantic drama The Other Half with Emmy-winner Tatiana Maslany (not rated) and dark western Brimstone with Dakota Fanning and Guy Pearce Cullen (R).

Netflix

The Nicholas Sparks romantic drama Safe Haven (2013) stars Julianne Hough as a mysterious beauty and Josh Duhamel as a ruggedly handsome widower (PG-13).

Robert De Niro and Edgar Ramirez star in the real-life boxing drama Hands of Stone (2016, R) and Mads Mikkelsen and Eva Green are in the frontier revenge drama Salvation (2014, R).

The Iron Giant (1999) is one of the great American animated movies for kids and grown-ups alike (PG).

Streaming TV: All four seasons of the superb but largely unseen Sundance original series Rectify are now available.

Also new: Netflix’s original romantic comedy Love: Season 2,” the post-apocalyptic Into the Badlands: Season 1,” and the animated Buddy Thunderstruck: Season 1for kids.

The second and final season of the Amazon series Hand of God: Season 2 puts Ron Perlman’s vigilant judge on trial for murder. Dana Delany and Garret Dillahunt co-star.

All four seasons of the acclaimed Comedy Central sketch comedy Inside Amy Schumer are now available.

HBO Now

X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) reunites Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and James McAvoy to save mankind from an ancient mutant (Oscar Isaac) (PG).

The Criterion Channel

Roman Polanski’s Rosemary’s Baby (1968) and the rediscovered 1960 drama Something Wild with Carroll Baker and Ralph Meeker are available with bonus featurettes through the month of March.

Midsomer Murders: Series 19, Part 1 presents the stateside debuts of four new feature-length mysteries with Neil Dudgeon as Detective Chief Inspector John Barnaby.
