Idaho lawmaker in the news: Priscilla Giddings

Hometown: White Bird, Idaho

Party: Republican

District: Giddings’ Legislative District 7 takes in all of Clearwater, Idaho and Shoshone counties and part of Bonner County

Background: An A-10 fighter pilot who served three combat deployments, Giddings is a freshman state representative. In her first term this year, she brought the House to a grinding halt by insisting a lengthy bill about notaries public should be read in full; her colleagues voted to have her read it herself, which took more than an hour.

Last election: Giddings defeated Rep. Shannon McMillan, R-Silverton, with 61 percent of the vote in the GOP primary, then won the general election with 71 percent of the vote.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in biology from U.S. Air Force Academy; master’s degree in physiology from California University of Pennsylvania, while deployed

Work experience: Idaho state director of admissions for the Air Force Academy and ROTC; currently serving as a major in the Air Force Reserves. Civilian commercial, corporate and contract pilot. Nine years Air Force active duty.

Family: Giddings is the daughter of Idaho County Sheriff Doug Giddings.
