Softball roundup: Washington shuts out Arizona State to complete sweep

The Huskies (24-3, 3-0 Pac-12) shutout the Sun Devils (19-8, 0-3) 4-0 in Game 1 and 1-0 in Game 2 in a double header at the Husky Softball Stadium in Seattle on Sunday.

Samantha Manti (5-0) earned the complete-game shutout in Game 1, and added three more scoreless innings in Game 2. Taran Alvelo (14-1) followed with four scoreless innings to earn the win. Casey Stangel went 2 for 3 in Game 1 and Taylor Van Zee launched a home run to centerfield to score UW’s only run in Game 2.

Whitworth 1-11, Lewis & Clark 0-3: The Pirates (14-4, 5-1 NWC) outlasted the Pioneers (1-11, 1-7) in extra innings in Game 1 and later thumped LC in Game 2 in a doubleheader in Portland, Oregon.

Madi Perez pitched eight scoreless innings and scored the game-winning run in the eighth inning, tagging up from third on a sacrifice fly from Myranda Ramirez in Game 1. Ramirez went 2 for 4 with three RBIs to lead the Pirates in Game 2.
