Oregon State University tuition hike vote postponed due to protesters

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State University Board of Trustees postponed a vote on a possible tuition increase after protesters interrupted its meeting.

The Corvallis Gazette-Times reported the board was expected to vote Friday on a proposal to increase tuition by 4 percent for resident undergraduates and 2 percent for nonresident undergraduates.

But that action never came. Instead, the board adjourned after the protesters marched into the meeting room, locked arms and began chanting demands.

An Oregon State Police trooper was eventually called in to monitor the situation but no arrests were made.

OSU spokesman Steve Clark says the university would soon announce a new meeting date.
