A free event on Saturday will examine ways to establish and support a local food supply.

The Sustainable Local Food Colloquium is from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 4340 W. Fort Wright Drive.

Organizers said that speakers will talk about how consumers can move away from an industrial food economy and toward a more local sustainable system.

A series of panel discussions and break out sessions is planned.

The “buy it” panel will be at 1 p.m. followed by a “raise it” panel at 2 p.m.

Breakout sessions from 3 to 4 p.m. will focus on extending the growing season, gleaning, raising chickens for eggs, community gardens, bees and edible landscaping, among other topics.
