SAN JOSE, Calif. – When Johnathan Williams decided to transfer from Missouri, one of the calls he fielded was from Xavier coach Chris Mack.
“I talked to him a couple times,” Williams said. “He seemed like a good guy. I knew Xavier was a great team. I just wanted to make sure I made the right decision and I started to narrow it down pretty quickly.”
The Memphis, Tennessee, native eventually chose Gonzaga and the junior forward has been a key player for the second-ranked Zags. He’s averaging 10.1 points and 6.6 rebounds.
“We tried to get in on him and he didn’t give us much,” Mack recalled.
