Teen suspected of trying to shoot Sheriff’s deputy already a convicted felon

The 17-year-old accused of attempting to shoot a Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputy is already a convicted felon, court records show.

Colton B. Singleton is being charged as an adult with attempted murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of an unlawful firearm. He has previous convictions for second-degree robbery and felony possession of a controlled substance.

Deputies were called to the 15800 block of East Valleyway Avenue shortly after 1 a.m. Monday on a report of two vehicle prowlers. The two were spotted at the Fred Meyer on East Sprague and Singleton allegedly pointed a sawed off shotgun at a deputy before Singleton tripped and fell, according to court documents.

Singleton reportedly called the deputies “pigs” and “corrupt.” When the first deputy on scene told another deputy that Singleton tried to shoot him, Singleton reportedly said “I forgot to take the safety off,” court documents state.
