Preservation office plans activities for month of May

From local reports

The Spokane City/County Historic Preservation Office has lined up an architectural scavenger hunt to celebrate May as preservation month.

The office has created the hunt in the Corbin Park Historic District on the North Side and in other locations in the county.

The staff has assembled photos of 10 architectural details found in the Corbin Park district and three details in the county. Go to historicspokane.org for a guide to the scavenger hunt.

Players get to register for one of four historic prizes. They are tours of the historic Spokane County Courthouse, including the tower, the Nuzum House or Dill House, or two tickets to a historic home tour later this year.

A preservation happy hour is planned for from 5 to 7 p.m. May 25 at the historic Washington Cracker Co. Building, 304 W. Pacific Ave.

Reservations are requested by May 18 at preservation@spokanecity.org. The staff will provide follow-up directions for purchasing the $20 tickets. Beer and wine will be available. The wine will be from Overbluff Cellars inside the Cracker Co. building. The price includes appetizers and one drink.

During the event, owners of properties that have turned 100 years old will receive centennial certificates.

“This is a great time to showcase the social and economic benefits of historic preservation in and around Spokane and Spokane County,” a news release from the preservation office said.
