One killed, three injured in fatal crash south of Newport

One person was killed and three injured in a crash on Highway 2 south of Newport Friday afternoon.

Michael Warner, 17, was killed when the car in which he was riding crossed the center line into the southbound lane and was struck by an oncoming Kenworth Tractor hauling an equipment trailer, according to a memo from Washington State Patrol.

The car’s driver, Nicholas Braden, 18, along with passenger Lilly Gray, 17, were airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital following the collision. A third passenger, Cody Warner, 16, was transported to Sacred Heart by ambulance.

The driver of the tractor was not injured.

The car swerved out of the northbound lane after being unable to stop for traffic that had accumulated behind a schoolbus, which had pulled onto the shoulder to let children off, according to the memo.
